<image:title>About - It all began with Hazel and Ken.</image:title>
<image:caption>Just a few hundred yards away from the River Roach you’ll find The Plough & Sail owned by the Oliver family since 1965. Still run as a traditional Essex country pub with home cooked food, real ales, an impressive Gin selection and cozy log fires. The Plough & Sail has history dating back over 300 years. It is said that Paglesham was known to be the smuggling capital of the district where many locals were ship owners using the port to transport goods such as tea, gin and tobacco from Dunkirk, providing a healthy profit. The coast between Southend and Rochford was ideal smuggling country, with its creeks and rivulets turning to mud flats at low tide. Over 30 oyster smacks were based in Paglesham and The Plough & Sail became a meeting place for the hardworking crews. Today, The Plough & Sail still provides a meeting place for the local community and those visiting to enjoy the natural beauty of the Essex countryside.</image:caption>

<image:title>Doggos - Please ask your furry friends to wait outside.</image:title>
<image:caption>We love dogs at the Plough & Sail and encourage dog walkers to pop in for a pint or some well-earned grub after a long shlep with their hounds, however we are very sorry to say that we do not permit dogs inside. There are a number of water bowls outside to keep them hydrated and we’re more than happy to refill them if they run dry so please ask at the bar. Being a 1600th century building, the inside of the pub is quite tight at times therefore to avoid having to make a decision whether a big dog vs a small dog is able to come inside we have made the decision that no dogs other than guide dogs are allowed. You may notice our resident ‘guard dog’ Buddy so if you see him please say hello, he is very friendly and loves the attention!</image:caption>
